Rex Hime Stands with Victims and Will of Voters. Calls Newsom’s Plan to Eliminate Death Penalty “Trampling on the Memory of Victims”

LOOMIS, Calif- Rex Hime, candidate for Senate District 1, released the following statement regarding Governor Gavin Newsom’s proposed plan to let 737 prisoners off of death row:

“Governor Newsom’s plan to unilaterally ignore the law and stop executions in California shows he believes he knows better than Californians who voted to keep the death penalty and speed up appeals. The voters of the State of California support the death penalty – they approved Proposition 66 in 2016 to ensure the death penalty is implemented, and rejected measures to end the death penalty in 2016 and 2006. Newsom apparently thinks that the 737 criminals who were sentenced to death somehow do not deserve the sentence they received. This tramples on the memory of victims and the will of voters.  I stand with victims and their families, in condemning this reckless and insensitive act.”
